WomenNC’s mission is to lead North Carolina’s young adults in the elimination of injustice against women and girls. Our vision is to raise a generation that will honor women’s human rights. WomenNC’s programs involve Leadership Training and Advocacy to improve the status of women and girls in North Carolina through education and legislation. We are a young (3 year old), all-volunteer organization, and we are currently undergoing a strategic planning process where we are honing our efforts to focus on our advocacy and leadership work with North Carolina’s young people.
WomenNC’s Student Fellowship Program is our pioneer implementation of leadership training and advocacy. The theme of the program is Local to Global back to Local. Each year, qualified students are selected from a pool of applicants from North Carolina colleges and universities to work on a research project on women’s rights. Research themes connect to the theme of the United Nations Commission on Status of Women (CSW), where the students present on their work.
This program not only opens up avenues and motivates participating young adults, it also raises awareness and educates people of North Carolina on the crucial women’s rights issues that affect our society. WomenNC, through our student fellows, connects women’s rights – from local to global to local.
We are currently a candidate for ECOSOC status with the United Nations
