I Am A Student

Lead Locally. Advocate Globally.

At WomenNC, students are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that young people—especially girls, youth of color, and gender-diverse youth—are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but the changemakers of today. Our programs equip students with the skills, mentorship, and opportunities to research, advocate, and lead on the issues that matter most in their communities.

Through hands-on workshops, mentorship, and global collaboration, WomenNC connects North Carolina students to leadership experiences that bridge the classroom and the world stage—from local forums to the United Nations.

Opportunities for Students

The Juanita Bryant Scholars Leadership Program
An 11-month leadership experience for college students ages 18–22. Scholars conduct original research on gender equity issues, receive one-on-one mentorship, present their findings at WomenNC’s Local-to-Global Forum, and represent North Carolina at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York City.

Youth Leaders for Change Program

A 9-month program for high school juniors and seniors across Wake, Durham, and Orange Counties. Youth Leaders participate in monthly workshops on advocacy, civic engagement, and leadership development—culminating in community action projects and participation in the Youth Voices for Global Change event.

Internships & Fellowships

WomenNC offers flexible internships for high school and college students interested in nonprofit leadership, communications, advocacy, research, and event planning. Students gain professional experience while contributing to projects that strengthen gender equity and civic engagement statewide.

Student Partners Program

Through partnerships with North Carolina high schools, colleges and universities, students can integrate WomenNC programming into their coursework or research projects. Faculty partners collaborate with WomenNC to mentor students, host guest speakers, and connect academic learning to public leadership.

Youth Leadership Workshops

Open to participants 16-29, these interactive workshops introduce key concepts in gender equity, advocacy, and leadership. Sessions are led by WomenNC mentors, alumni, and community partners and cover topics such as:

• Public Speaking & Storytelling for Advocacy
