Did you know that in addition to our Leadership Training program and our Cities for CEDAW initiative, WomenNC partners with the UNC School of Public Policy to provide research and policy recommendations that mitigate gender disparities across the state?
Most recently, working with WomenNC on a their capstone project, five UNC public policy undergraduate students explored how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted childcare access, maternal well-being, and labor force participation in Mecklenburg, County.
In addition to a comprehensive literature review of childcare resources, students created two surveys that were distributed to both childcare providers and to primary caregivers. The research team contacted over 400 childcare facilities and services throughout Mecklenburg County! The information collected from this survey was then used to establish state-wide and county level policy recommendations. See some of them below.
